Week 8_3/5/2016_Introduction Revision

Daily Real Gambling
To an uninformed individual, daily fantasy sports can easily seem like a harmless online game for sports fans. The truth is, it can also be a dangerous form of gambling that lure players with empty promises of quick and easy prize for small amounts of price. Despite this and how the companies providing these activities are constantly making controversial claims and statements, their popularity is only growing. As more and more people become involved, it becomes more and more urgent to determine if it is safe for people, especially minors, to become engaged in it. As a result, many studies of both the nature of daily fantasy sports and the definition of the law have been done. Many of them concluded that this activity must be classified as gambling because of the high chances involved and the large amounts of price paid to play and possible rewards. If this is true, then it is undeniably clear that this activity must be illegal for individuals under the age of eighteen in states like Missouri where gambling is banned for them. However, if one requires more reasons to follow through with this enforcement of the law, there are other reasons why daily fantasy sports must be banned for younger players. The possibility of earning large sums of money by picking good players online and forming an imaginary team can be very appealing, making this game much too addictive. Those that tend to wager a lot for a reward are especially likely to suffer. The reason they are almost sure to have losses comes from the fact that 90% of players have lost money while playing.1 The thrill of experiencing the quick rush that comes with the short game period and the incredibly easy access can make it even harder to restrain from. Should younger players who are less financially stable than older players become hooked to such dangerously addictive game, they are more likely to suffer bigger consequences. Moreover, as this essay will demonstrate, they are less likely to make smarter decisions than older people. This will predispose them to take more risks. It is even possible for them to develop habits involving this game that may be hard to overcome. Finally, younger players could be more easily influenced by the advertisements the fantasy sports organizations constantly expose them to in through various forms of media.2 All in all, daily fantasy sports must be banned in Missouri for minors because under aged players are forbidden from gambling in this state, they are more likely to develop addictions and interests, and they are more likely to have consequences.

  1. This article should be fun to read, the introduction seem very promising. As a Vietnamese, most of my relatives and friends are extremely into gambling, so reading about this problem should help me clarify the causes, and ways to help those people. Gambling problem should be more concern by the people, especially the Vietnamese. I'm looking forward to reading this full article.
