Week 1_1/15/2016_Past Writing Experiences
During High School, I had to take English Learning Language classes since I'm a foreigner. 3 years were how long I've spent studying English. It was not easy since I have zero knowledge about this language before attending my high school. It took me an enormous amount of efforts just to be able to hold a conversation with another American. During my senior year, I had an English 1 class, and being one of the three senior in that freshmen-only class was a bit of a shame. With that being said, it wasn't as difficult as I overwhelmingly expected it to be, especially since there was only one writing assignment during the two semesters.
But then come college, and it was an unexpected turn for me during the first few week. First of all, the very first semester alone have already promise with 5 essays, and a presentation, that five time the number of words to type compare to high school. Not only that, the time given us to finish our essay was a shortly 1 weeks period, it just too much for me to handle. Learning from that experience, I expected this 2nd semester English class to be somewhat similar in both the assignments and the homework.
Let's dig deeper into the detail, there were a mix of both positive and negative experiences during the 12 weeks in Mrs. Barton English class. The class environment was a bit dull, and does not give you the excitement to be there. Mrs. Barton, although, was a great teacher who is understanding, kind hearted, and possess a huge amount of knowledge, but sadly, she couldn't find a more efficient way to spread those valuable knowledge toward us, and instead, bored us during her lecture. Her speaking voice isn't loud enough, given me a hard time to listen to her lecture. She have not encourage, or persuade us enough to participate during class, but instead, wait until a student decide to break the silent, and give his/ her answers. In case no one decided to raise their hand to talk, Mrs. Barton will either give us the answer herself or skip it, depend on the relevant level of the topic. The conflict here is that the class is called Rhetorical and Research, yet, Mrs. Barton had not successfully encourage, persuade us enough to simply participate in her lecture. Although I can blame most of the silent in the class is due to the sleepiness of the students since it 9am in the morning.
Added to the weary environment of the class is the tedious essays we had to write as the topic isn't that interesting, or stand out enough to bring us the excitement we expected, which led to the reason why it was hard for us to persuade the reader into doing, believing what we wanted them to. With that being said, I did learnt many useful information, more vocabulary to add to my English library, and tricks in Microsoft Word such as headline, MLA format, page numbers, etc.
All in all, i had a really high expectation for this class. Everyone seem to participate to their heart content, the teacher had done a pretty good job in both persuade the students to participate, and provide his knowledge. With my goal set all learning more vocabulary, and having a better understanding toward the structural of essays. To do so, a full attendant is expected, homework need to be done, and questions need to be ask.
