Week 6_2/20/16

As we saw Taylor Swift's remake of Ryan Adams song, they have the same lyrics but from the way it is being sung I feel shows you that they are two different songs. Ryan Adams version of the song is very soothing and calm, it puts you in the mood for one of those relaxing sunny days we wish we can all have when we are not working or at school. Ryan is more bare and has a more lowered vocal key with his songs being more of a heartbroken song. We can see a huge difference in Taylor Swifts performance of the song although her voice isn't that rough, it is pretty soft and soothing as well. Her version of the song is more "Pop Culture" I can say. Very intense and feels that you'd be having a day full of chaos and always in a rush, this is the imagery I got from her music video with many objects flying around and her chanting the words.
The lyrics "Baby, have to do this? I was thinking that you could be trusted", "Baby, have to ruin what was shiny? Now it's all rusted", "Did you have to hit me, where I'm weak?" You can definitely tell the difference in the voices of Ryan and Taylor as they sang. Ryan showed more emotion then Taylor, from his soft voice we could tell he was clearly sad and heartbroken as he felt betrayed. Whereas when Taylor sang, she was more aggressive in the way she was singing. Not really showing any signs that she's sad but more mad. I think we would be able to tell a lot more if the Ryan Adams version (original version), had a music video, because the fact that we saw Taylor fighting in the beginning really planted an image in our minds of how she was backstabbed and is what possibly led her to be aggressive.
The two songs sung obviously are trying to get the attention of two different audiences. Ryan's song is more of a calm and relaxed audience whereas Taylor's is more of a aggressive and "party" audience. We can see a big difference in the type of generations we once were in and what we are in now which is to why I believe the songs formats are different.

  1. Qaher,
I love your observations of the two songs! I did the same analysis, and we found many of the same things to be true. I failed to point out that Ryan's version clearly showed more emotion than Taylor's, which was fueled more by aggression. Great job.
