He is right when he says that 100% of
people care about flags, I think it’s more of a patriotic reason to why so. Great
explanation to why many flags around the world are constructed the way they
are.
Every country or
major city around the globe has a unique flag that represents it. We are taken
away by the beauty of that which it symbolizes. We sit there and gaze at it
trying to interpret what it means and why it is structured in such a way. In the video the Roman Mars explains what a flag is supposed to look
like as he had very interesting points on why flags are designed the way they are. He was very quick to judge and criticize many major American city flags for their lack of effort and bad designs. He says that a flag is supposed to be something simple, something a child could remember
to draw from memory. It isn’t supposed to have any written words for it will
destroy the symbolic structure of the flag.
The flag I chose to redesign is the flag of Palestine. The reason for this is because it is where I am from. It has a lot of
history behind it that many people are unaware of. It is a country that has been fought over and occupied for thousands of years. One occupation in particular dating back prior to World
War II was when the British took control of Egypt all the way up to Palestine
in their defeat of the Ottoman Empire. After the British, came Israel in 1948
who expelled more than 1 million Palestinians. Till this day Palestine is still
under the control and occupation of Israel. The Palestinian flag consists of
four colors and each color symbolizes something. Green:
is for the land of Palestine, White: is for the peace in which the Palestinian
people lived before they were made refugees, Red: is for their blood spilled
trying to liberate their land, and Black: is for their life under occupation.
This is the new design I have chosen for the
Palestinian flag. The original one has the color white in the middle and the
green on the bottom. It also does not consist of the tree stars. The reason I
redesigned the flag with three starts is because of the three major intifadas
or uprisings that have occurred during the time Palestine has been occupied in
fighting and revolting against the occupation. The stars are in white because the uprisings and revolting represent what they have been fighting for, and that is peace.
Very interesting concept! However, what would the background of the flag be? And how many points would the stars have? I think you should specify because otherwise, the stars could look like the Star of David, which represents Israel, and I'm not sure Palestinians would be okay including a Star of David on their flag. In addition, I think foreigners might get confused about the difference between Palestine and Israel if a star is included. Since Israel's flag already has a star in its flag, perhaps Palestine's flag could include another symbol that is central to its ideologies.
ReplyDeleteThe star I put on the flag are different starts compared to the star of David. But a lot of people must understand that the Palestinian-Conflict is not a religious war. It is a country that is taking away the rights of a country that deserves to exist the same as any other country would. But let us say that the stars do represent the Star of David, why can't we all live under one country with Muslims, Christians and Jews the same way we did before World War II?
