Week 10_4/2/16_Viet Nam's Flag

Roman Mars had done a splendid job in explaining the important of a flag. Mars shown the audience his passions toward flag, and how every details included in a flag are relevant enough to deserve people's acknowledgement by using a very distinctive way during his presentation by using multiple voices from many different vexillologist. Never before that I had pay attention to flags, but after the video, I was convinced that every flag deserves more thought and attentions in its design, along with a better understanding of what made a great flag. The video of Mars was a valuable experience, giving the audience a more extensive look toward the detail and the meaning hidden in every flag, something that represent us.

A flag can represent the people, the community, the government, and the history of a specific location. My home-country, Vietnam, have a flag consisted of a yellow star placing in the middle of a red flag. The star represent the raise of a new powerful authority, while the red background symbolize the idea of communism, to dye the world red with blood. In other word, communist will shine by killing what opposed them. This, ultimately, is not a positive message, and should never be a message for Vietnam's future generation practice.

With that being said, the flag had done a good job in practicing the major component that would made up a great flag. The flag have a simple design, a star representing Vietnam, with two majors colors, red and yellow, symbolizing communism. the design was simple enough to be remember by a child with no seal and no word.

But the reason why I want to change the design is because of the dark meaning behind it. The ideal flag to me would a light blue flag, representing the peace every Vietnamese citizen always wished to have, and the surface of the Dong drum, which is the symbol of Vietnam's heritage and what our ancestor had left us. Dong drum in a blue background flag will represent the Vietnamese people would do any possible thing they can to gain independent and peace, in peace.The flag will be easy to remember, and has only two colors, without any words or symbols, which met every great flag requirement.
